Software Engineering

AI-augmented delivery with the Software Factory 10x: context engineering, ultra-robust CI/CD, Sandwich Teams. Code is no longer the asset — context is.

Writing code is now an anti-pattern

That deliberately provocative statement captures our conviction: manual code production is a brake, not an asset. In the era of AI-augmented development, value no longer lies in the ability to write code but in the ability to engineer the context that lets AI produce excellent code.

At SFEIR, software engineering reinvents itself around Context Engineering: structured context — specifications, rules, architecture, conventions — is the new strategic IT asset, versioned in Git and maintained like code. The developer mutates into a Product Engineer: a context architect and specification designer who coordinates fully AI-augmented production, the way a lumberjack coordinates a machine.

Compound Engineering

Compound Engineering is our software production methodology. Its core principle is the inversion of complexity: where traditional engineering adds complexity with each feature, here each iteration makes the next one simpler. The cycle — PLAN, WORK, REVIEW, COMPOUND, REPEAT — spends roughly 80% of the time teaching the system and reviewing, and 20% executing. That counter-intuitive ratio is the key to 10x productivity: a well-prepared context makes execution almost automatic.

The 2025-to-2026 shift moves from Spec-Driven (asking for isolated features — "bolting a bathroom onto the facade") to Issue-Based work (reporting gaps and bugs, where AI analyses the existing context to produce a systemically coherent solution). This is the move from individual productivity to architectural coherence.

AI-Ready stack and the Sandwich Team

To get the most from AI in production, the stack matters. Our AI-Ready stack favours strong typing (TypeScript offers the best typing-to-density ratio), explicit verbosity over compressed syntax, no invisible magic, and trunk-based development. Engineers keep total freedom over their tools; what we standardise is the context and the output.

The Sandwich Team replaces the Pizza Team. A single AI-augmented person — the App Owner — covers 80% of the skills needed (UX, UI, Front, API, Back, Security), complemented by occasional specialists (20%) who plug in through shared context. The result is the speed of an individual with the functional coverage of a full team: a 10x productivity ratio.

CI/CD, quality and AI-First APIs

Our SDLC is built for 10x: rigorous specs, AI build under supervision, ultra-robust CI/CD and proactive business monitoring. The pipeline is the safety net that lets AI produce at high speed without sacrificing quality — without robust automated tests, AI amplifies chaos instead of resolving it, the central lesson of DORA 2025. We track the Rework Rate systematically: the hidden cost of artificial velocity.

Our architectures are cloud-native by design (containers, Kubernetes, serverless, event-driven, service mesh), and our APIs evolve from API-First to AI-First: rich semantic descriptions and exposure through MCP servers so that agents can discover and use them autonomously. Our guiding conviction is simple — build less code, but a better system.
