Culture

SFEIR runs like a tribe of 850 engineers connected to the wider tech communities. Real skill outranks the job title, and every Sfeirian drives their own career.

A community connected to communities

SFEIR runs like a tribe of 850 engineers across France and Benelux who call themselves Sfeirians, with shared rituals and a shared vocabulary. Recruitment runs through the PlayOffs: every candidate goes through several pair-programming sessions with working Sfeirians, where both technical level and "Sfeiricity" — the blend of rigour, kindness and a taste for sharing — are assessed. No quotas, no sales targets: only tech level and tech culture count.

Five values structure how Sfeirians talk to and challenge each other: kindness, inclusiveness, excellence, freedom and responsibility. Flat hierarchy, decentralised organisation, managers who still code — the community holds because no one stands apart from it.

Skills over titles

There is no fixed job description. We map your real skills — up to 13 per role — and deploy you where you have concrete impact; growth is measured on what you can do, not on your title. The SFEIR Path offers two parallel tracks: Individual Contributor (Staff, Principal, Senior Principal Engineer) for those who want to stay in the tech, and Management (Engineering Manager or Director) for those who want to build teams.

Permanent learning and personal branding

Learning is continuous: peer-led SFEIR Schools, certified training through SFEIR Institute (Google Cloud, AWS, Microsoft, Kubernetes), and the in-house generative-AI platform RAISE that gives the whole community access to the latest LLMs. Sfeirians are encouraged to build their public profile — writing on sfeir.dev, speaking at conferences such as Devoxx, DevFest and Google I/O, training at SFEIR Institute, and organising local tech communities as a recognised, supported role.
